Flex accessibility
A good post from Aral regarding the state of accessibility within Flex. I hope they concentrate on this side of Flash soon rather than adding more wizzy features; it seems with Flash and AJAX you’re always having to hold your hands up and admit that they don’t bring a lot to the party when it […]

New Flash plug-in tightens up security, while existing loopholes remain
Adobe have released the latest version of the Flash plug-in, version 9.0.124.0. I blogged about the reasons for this release previously, but it’ll mostly affect older Flash content played out through the latest player. See the updated posting on Adobe’s site for detailed information.
Slightly more worrying is Grant Skinner’s latest blog post which outlines some […]Mac + Eclipse + FDT = a worthwhile huge pain in the ass?
Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m too used to things working out-of-the-box when it comes to applications. Maybe it’s because I’m on a Mac (at home). Maybe I’m a bit slow (a distinct possibility).
Today I tried to get a combination of Eclipse and FDT working, after two very clever ex-colleagues of mine highly recommended it […]SWFObject 2.0
The new SWFObject is out. There are two main ways to embed Flash content on a page, with Option 2 sounding like the best fit for the rules/regulations we have to adhere to for work (progressive enhancement, no click-to-activate rubbish in IE, you HAVE to have JS to view the Flash, etc). Option 2 follows […]
Flash Player 9 April 2008 security update
Adobe have posted an article informing those in the Flash community that there’s a security update coming next month, and advised developers to subscribe to their security notification service.
Most of it seems to affect socket behaviour, which I unfortuately haven’t had much experience with so far (except for pottering around with SmartFoxServer at home and […]Flash player version test pages

Moock AS3 tour notes
I’m looking forward to attending the AS3 tour early next month in London and I see Adobe have posted the presentational notes from previous sessions here.
How accessible is Flex?
Good article here, although when using Flex you’re also dealing with the framework/component weight to download (which adds about 300k I think), so some users will be waiting before experiencing their accessible Flash. Not sure if the Flash player caches this yet (I remember reading that it was in the pipeline at one stage…)
Flash 9 at 94.3% penetration in Europe
Emmy Huang’s blog reveals the new stats for Flash penetration across the world for December 2007 (also up on Adobe’s site). While the US figures are an even more impressive 95.3%, in Europe having 94.3% of users able to view Flash 9 content is amazing.
Worth taking with a tiny pinch of salt, as our internal […]
