Flash-Ajax Video component
Intend to look a lot closer at this new development from Adobe, which allows you to stick video on a webpage via a JavaScript embed specifying a few parameters. Looks very promising; works by bringing different skin swfs.
More on FAVideo can be found on gskinner’s blog. Didn’t realise Grant Skinner had been involved in the […]Adobe Live 2007
Adobe Live was a two-day event held in Angel on the 5th-6th June which showcased a number of new technologies on offer from Adobe, along with various seminars and talks from industry professionals.
Below are the rough notes I took (more of a brain dump, but I haven’t the time to format it right now).

Flash CS3 video captioning
Flash needs all the accessibility points it can get, so articles such as this are welcome in enlightening both developers and consumers regarding Flash video’s current assessibility status.

It seems Adobe have relented and included DRM within Flash video with the announcement of Adobe Media Player.
Hot on their heels is Microsoft, who’ve also announced Silverlight, a plug-in for Windows and Mac that’ll work across the major browsers too.
Who will win? Hopefully Flash, but it’ll depend on which of the big boys incorporate what […]Flash video best when divisible by 16?
I’ve been looking into whether better-quality Flash video is produced when sticking to dimensions that are divisible by 16. This seemingly has been the rule with older codecs, but I’ve had to investigate the issue for Flash 8 .flv video. Adobe doesn’t seem to think so, stating:
Although these ratios are standard, and should be used […]Flash video encoder can’t encode 16:9
That’s been my experience. It also says so here. You’d think 16:9 video would be a basic requirement!
